Project Summary

The Great Trail, formerly the Trans Canada Trail, is an incredibly ambitious trail project that aims to connect the country through over 24,000-kilometres of multiuse trail. Representing the largest recreational trail in the world, it aims to deliver a safe, enjoyable, high-quality trail that provides access to landscapes, history, and culture that are as vast and diverse as the country itself. The City recognized the current Great Trail within Corner Brook felt confusing, dangerous in places, and somewhat haphazardly planned. Working with Mills & Wright, the City initiated a feasibility study. Guided by extensive public engagement (six open houses in total), five alternate routes were selected and evaluated with the objective of finding one that provided the authentic, world-class experience that The Great Trail envisioned.
