Project Summary

Mount Pearl Walks represents a comprehensive study of the trail network for one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest municipalities. The original terms of reference sought input on how the City of Mount Pearl could enhance its existing trail network but focused primarily on its physical traits. The project evolved, however, to became an in-depth study in finding ways of elevating the established and popular trail network to another level. It became about much more than simply repairing rough spots, but about challenging how a trail network could become a municipality’s strongest asset in improving quality of life, providing alternative transportation options, encouraging an active lifestyle, and addressing complex social issues such as obesity and an aging population.
